Furry Friends Food Bank – Eastern Area Agency on Aging

The Furry Friends Food Bank (FFFB) is a program of the Eastern Area Agency on Aging (www.eaaa.org) that helps low-income seniors feed their pets. FFFB has been operating since 2008, currently with 26 distribution locations throughout four Maine counties, an area of 13,000 square miles, we have been able to help thousands of low-income seniors keep their companion animals! Every month we distribute roughly 10,000 pounds of pet food and litter, serving over 400 consumers.

Distribution Sites

Penobscot: Bangor House, Bangor, Brewer Housing, Dexter, Eddington, Enfield, Exeter, Hermon, Holden, Kenduskeag, Lincoln, Millinocket, Newport, and Patten

Piscataquis: Dover and Milo

Hancock: Blue Hill, Bucksport, Deer Isle, Ellsworth, and MDI

Washington: Addison, Calais, Cherryfield, Eastport, and Machias

FFFB is able to meet the needs of the seniors we serve by purchasing pet food and necessities from grant money received by the Sewell Foundation, as well as donations from local business, the public, host fundraisers, and we request a dollar donation in lieu of the pet food from the consumers.

Our volunteers then prepackage the dog food, cat food, and litter to send out to one of our monthly distribution locations. Each prepackaged bag contains a bag of dry food and cans of wet food, in addition to a container of litter if you are picking up for a cat.

Seniors 60 years of age or older who meet the income guidelines of ($1307/month for a single person household or $1760/month for a two-person household) can qualify by calling Eastern Area Agency On Aging (EAAA) at 941-2865.

If you would like to donate in spirit of the holiday season Green Acres Kennel Shop will be collecting donations up until December 31st that will be used to purchase pet food at wholesale prices for distribution by the EAAA to those in need. You can bring or mail any donations to Green Acres Kennel Shop at 1653 Union Street, Bangor, ME or you can donate with cash, check, or credit card. If you cannot make it into the shop you may donate via Green Acres Kennel Shop’s secure PayPal account on their website at (www.greenacres-donate.com

Last year we were able to raise a total of $6,000 through the kindness and generosity of the community, this year our goal is again $6,000. Once we have raised the $6,000 Green Acres will donate an additional $1,000!

Please help us keep seniors and their precious pets together, thank you!
